Become a Notre Dame Sister
Answering the call to Consecrated Life is a way to fulfill one's baptismal consecration. Answering the call to join the Notre Dame Sisters is to enter into their mission of meeting the unmet needs of the time, through a lifestyle of prayer, simplicity, hospitality, service and risk. Becoming a Notre Dame Sister is a process of mutuality and continued discernment with the Vocation Director: The Inquiry Stage in which a woman expresses an interest in becoming a Notre Dame Sister and spends a period of time clarifying and responding to her personal vocational call, and her call to be a Notre Dame Sister. The Candidature Stage (six months to two years) in which a woman comes to know herself more deeply as a unique person and as a Christian. She has the opportunity to experience the Notre Dame Mission and charism by living with a community of Notre Dame Sisters. The Novitiate Stage (two years) in which the woman deepens her commitment to Christ, develops a Marian Spirituality, comes to an understanding of apostolic, vowed community life, solidifies her identity as a community member and as a woman of the church and learns how to integrate community, prayer and service. The Initial Commitment Stage (three to five years) in which the woman professes for a temporary period of time the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, and is initiated into the work of the congregation through a particular ministry. The Permanent Commitment Stage in which formal training is completed but the woman is totally committed to on-going formation in spirituality, community living and apostolic works.
