“We
accept from God the call to reach out to people with unmet needs.”
To live this mission, the Notre Dame Sisters rely on the partnership of
people who also feel strongly about meeting the unmet needs of families,
women, children, seniors, survivors of domestic violence, and the disadvantaged.
The Sisters also rely on the partnership of people to help meet the needs
of the retired Sisters, as “A Notre Dame Sisters is an apostle to
the last moment of her life.”
The life of a Notre Dame Sister is a life of action that is based on and
grounded in prayer and community. The Sisters ask that your first gift
in support of the mission of meeting the needs of others be in the form
of prayer. It is the prayerful support of many people that helps the Sisters
accomplish much good.
As a religious community, the Sisters are responsible for their own support
and the care of their members, and for funding their ministries. About
thirty Sisters live in the Motherhouse and Health & Care Center in
Omaha, Nebraska. Other Sisters live in the area of their ministry, often
in small groups. Sisters who receive salaries as a result of their ministry
pool the money for the support of all the Sisters. The Sisters live frugally
and plan carefully for the future of the retired Sisters, some of whom
will require the support of the Health & Care Center that is maintained
by the Notre Dame community.
Although the majority of the financial support for the community comes
from the salaries of the Sisters, gifts from benefactors can make a significant
and lasting difference in the lives of the Notre Dame Sisters.
