We
are involved in a wide range of service ministries. Guiding our areas of
service are our charism “to meet unmet needs,” our direction
in the American Province to work to eliminate family violence, and our history
of support for women and families. All this is balanced with our talents
and resources, our commitment to the poor, and the particular circumstances
of a given situation. We use the discernment process to evaluate our ministries and to begin new ones, always looking at how we are spreading God’s love in the Church and the world. Major apostolic commitments and directions within the province are discussed and determined at community meetings. Individual ministries are determined in dialogue with the community administration. Any ministry we do is also being done by married and single people who do not belong to a community. They bring the gifts of their lifestyle to their work as we do. Our gifts include the support of the entire community by prayer, shared wisdom, and networking to use the talents of other members. We also are free to make prophetic stances as we do not need to worry about losing our job or retirement benefits. We share our love with all with whom we work; we realize those we serve often give us more than we give them. As
a community we sponsor safe, affordable housing for the elderly in buildings
adjacent to our Motherhouse. At present, in all other ministries, we work
in conjunction with others who are the major sponsors of the ministry. We
are grade school, high school and college teachers, hospital and police
chaplains, nurse practitioners, home nurses, school and family counselors,
parish pastoral ministers, development directors, administrators of our
elderly housing, companions for the elderly, massage therapists, and administrators
of religious education programs. Many of us serve on various boards of groups
and institutions whose work we want to support; we give volunteer service
to parishes, projects and organizations whose goals match ours.Because we believe that we are apostles until the time we die, our “retired” Sisters are involved in many volunteer ministries and are active in prayer ministry. We encourage people to request our prayers for their special needs. |
