In
the spring of 2002 Sr. Edwardine Rezek and Sr. Ernestine Havlovic retired,
after more than 40 combined years of service at St. John Nepomucene Catholic
elementary school in Weston, Nebraska. The St. John Home and School Association
honored them with an Open House on April 21, 2002. Students, parents, former
students and friends from Weston, Prague, Plasi, Touhy, Valparaiso and other
Nebraska towns attended. Many Notre Dame Sisters also came to help celebrate
Sr. Ernestine and Sr. Edwardine, their many years of service and their love
for the St. John community.
On May 5, St. John Parish in Weston wished the Sisters farewell at a sit-down
Brunch. The tables were decorated with an abundance of spring lilacs, and
the food furnished by parishioners was delicious.Sr. Edwardine and Sr. Ernestine appreciated the outpouring of affection, and good wishes and prayers for their retirement years. Both have completed the transition to life at the Motherhouse in Omaha, and are beginning new volunteer and service ministries. Each day they spend time in prayer for the needs of former students and friends from St. John's, and they visit Weston as often as they can. Sr. Edwardine spends much time working in the kitchen and helping the Sisters in the daily tasks of keeping up the convent. She can often be found volunteering to fold Mass booklets or make nametags for the Development Team. Sr. Ernestine often works for the Development Team too, as well as driving other Sisters to appointments and answering the convent telephone. Both are keeping very busy in their retirement days. |
