The annual Soup Supper fundraiser was held at Notre Dame on February 12, 2007. The approaching snowstorm did not keep people from coming to Notre Dame for delicious potato soup, vegetable soup or chili. Many people came to purchase the Sisters' famous kolaches. This year the Sisters were very grateful for publicity and support from the surrounding Florence community and Florence leaders and civic groups.

The soup supper, held each year in February, is part of the Safe Homes project. Safe Homes, led by Notre Dame Sisters and Associates, seeks funding in support of a program that is administered by Catholic Charities. This program, Family Passages, provides transitional, independent-living units to empower abused women and their dependent children through structured, supportive services. Families needing on-going support and greater safety may apply to this program when they have successfully completed a domestic violence program. Services include enhancement of living skills, a focus on personal empowerment and assistance with facing the challenges of breaking the cycle of domestic violence. Frances Hauptman, a graduate of Notre Dame Academy, spoke during the Soup Supper to explain Family Passages and the impact of the Safe Homes project. Many other Notre Dame Academy graduates attended the Soup Supper to support the work of the Sisters. (Photos) The Soup Supper was also supported by the Notre Dame Sisters and Associates Nonviolence Committee. Several Associates volunteers their time to help prepare and serve the Supper.
