Sr. Rosalee Burke (left) and Cathy Leak, Notre Dame AssociateSr. Rosalee Burke (left) and Notre Dame Associate Cathy Leak served soup at the annual Soup Supper fundraiser for the Safe Homes project. An outgrowth of the Sisters' and Associates concern and work in the field of domestic violence, the Safe Homes project appeals to faith-based communities to financially support the work of Catholic Charities' Family Passages. Family Passages gives women and their children who have finished a shelter program the ability to learn more about living a non-violent lifestyle. It provides life skills and job skills training and gives the women a good start so that returning to the abuser is no longer seen as necessary for survival.

The Safe Homes project is also an educational outreach to faith-based communities. Sisters and Notre Dame Associate Peggy Wilson and Sr. Mary Kay Meagher NDAssociates address congregations and civic groups about the topic of domestic violence, how to recognize it in the workplace, and resources that are available in the community. For more information about requesting a speaker or about the Notre Dame Associates, contact the Co-Directors of the Associate Program
