Rosalee Burke (left) and Notre Dame Associate Cathy Leak served soup at
the annual Soup Supper fundraiser for the Safe Homes project. An outgrowth
of the Sisters' and Associates concern and work in the field of domestic
violence, the Safe Homes project appeals to faith-based communities to
financially support the work of Catholic Charities' Family Passages. Family
Passages gives women and their children who have finished a shelter program
the ability to learn more about living a non-violent lifestyle. It provides
life skills and job skills training and gives the women a good start so
that returning to the abuser is no longer seen as necessary for survival.
The Safe Homes project is also an educational outreach to faith-based
communities. Sisters and Associates
address congregations and civic groups about the topic of domestic violence,
how to recognize it in the workplace, and resources that are available
